Vocalist Christopher Hall and keyboardist Walter Flakus met in 1985 and formed the industrial stone band Stabbing Westward in Chicago. They released an EP in 1990, and recruited guitarist Stuart Zechman, bassist Jim Sellers, and drummer David Suycott. In belated 1993, Columbia issued the band's major-label debut, Ungod. Although the record album wasn't a success, the radical promoted it unrelentingly, touring invariably and doing stacks of interviews. The base paid off in 1996, when the group released their irregular album, Wither Blister Burn & Peel. The touring and packaging had reinforced a solid, albeit modest cull out base which provided the launching domiciliation for the second record's first exclusive, "What Do I Have to Do." The unmarried became a Buzz Clip on MTV, and by the summertime, it was a modern tilt wireless strike that pushed the album to gold status. Stabbing Westward received farther exposure that summer when they opened several dates for the reunited Sex Pistols.

Undermentioned the success of Wither Blister Burn & Peel, Stabbing Westward spent nigh of 1997 in seclusion, running on their third base album. That record book, entitiled Darkest Days, was eventually released in April 1998. However, it failed to twin the gross revenue figures of its gold-certified forerunner, and Columbia dropped the band in the fountain of 2000. A twelvemonth later, the band inked a contend with Koch Records and issued a self-titled release. Plans for a fifth studio cause were in the works in late 2001, however things suddenly stopped up when Stabbing Westward disbanded in February the undermentioned year. Material culled from those roger Sessions were potential to turn up on solo efforts from Hall and Kubiszewski.
